Ishaq Dar Visits Kabul to Sign UAP Railway Project Agreement

ISLAMABAD, Jul 17 (Alliance News): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar is undertaking a day-long visit to Kabul today to sign the Framework Agreement on the Joint Feasibility Study for the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (UAP) Railway Project.

Accompanied by a high-level delegation including the Minister for Railways, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister and Special Representative for Afghanistan, and the Secretary of the Ministry of Railways, Dar’s visit highlights Pakistan’s commitment to the timely implementation of the regional connectivity initiative.

The UAP Railway Project is envisioned to establish a direct rail corridor linking Uzbekistan with Pakistan via Afghanistan, offering Central Asian countries access to Pakistani seaports. According to a press release by the Foreign Office, the project is designed to enhance regional trade, transit, stability, and economic development.

The signing of the Framework Agreement on Joint Feasibility Study by the three partner countries in Kabul marks a significant milestone towards the project’s implementation. The agreement will pave the way for coordinated planning and technical collaboration necessary to move the project forward.

During his visit, Deputy Prime Minister Dar will also meet Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister and call on the Acting Prime Minister of Afghanistan. The meetings are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral ties and exchanging views on key regional and international developments.
