Kashmiris to Observe Accession to Pakistan Day with Renewed Commitment to Freedom Struggle

ISLAMABAD, July 18 (Alliance News): Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and around the world will observe Accession to Pakistan Day tomorrow (Saturday), reaffirming their resolve to continue the struggle for the right to self-determination and the complete merger of Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan.

The day marks the historic event of July 19, 1947, when the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference passed a unanimous resolution in Srinagar, at the residence of Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan in Abi Guzar, calling for Jammu and Kashmir’s accession to Pakistan.

Hurriyat leader and APHC representative Abdul Hameed Lone stated that this resolution reflected the deep religious, cultural, geographical, and economic affinity Kashmiris have with Pakistan.

The landmark decision was made nearly a month before the creation of Pakistan and India under the British Partition Plan, which allowed princely states to join either of the two new nations.

According to Lone, the resolution was a clear expression of the Kashmiri people’s aspiration to align with Pakistan, foreseeing the threat to their religious and political freedoms under Hindu dominance in the region.

He added that the 19th July resolution was not merely a historic event but a continuing source of strength and identity for the Kashmiri freedom movement.

“The spirit of the 1947 resolution remains unshaken and continues to inspire Kashmiris to uphold their pledge with unparalleled resilience,” he said.

The observance of Accession to Pakistan Day serves as a reminder of the long-standing demand for a UN-mandated plebiscite and the right to self-determination, as promised under international resolutions.
