Khawaja Asif Says Limited Fuel Price Increase Achieved Despite Global Crisis

ISLAMABAD, March 8 (Alliance News): Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said the government had managed to keep the recent increase in petrol and diesel prices limited despite the ongoing global energy crisis.

In a message posted on the social media platform X, the minister said controlling fuel prices in the current international situation was a very difficult task for the government.

He stated that the increase in petrol prices had been kept limited due to extensive prior planning, international contacts, and strategic arrangements made by the government.

Khawaja Asif said that if such measures had not been taken in advance, petrol prices in Pakistan could have reached around Rs375 per litre.

The minister further noted that global petroleum prices had surged sharply in recent days following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key international oil transit route, which has disrupted global energy supply chains.

He said the government was continuing efforts to manage the situation and protect consumers from the full impact of rising international fuel prices.
