ISLAMABAD, Dec 01 (Alliance News): Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Punjab Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Bilal Akbar Khan on Monday to review major reforms in the transport sector, with a particular focus on upgrading the Rawalpindi–Islamabad Metro Bus Service.
Both sides discussed measures to enhance the metro’s operational efficiency, improve station facilities and make the service more commuter-friendly.
They also examined proposals to extend the metro route to cater to the rising number of daily passengers. Naqvi said thousands of commuters rely on the service every day, underscoring the need for continuous improvement.
A key decision was the formation of a joint coordination committee to supervise and facilitate planned upgrades to the metro system.
The meeting also stressed the importance of promoting electric transport as a way to reduce smog and improve public convenience.
Naqvi noted that Islamabad has launched electric buses for the first time, with the fleet and routes gradually expanding.
Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan briefed the Interior Minister on ongoing initiatives aimed at modernizing the province’s transport system and improving public mobility.
