BEIJING, Jul 10 (Alliance News): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar met with Cao Shumin, Deputy Head of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Publicity Department and Minister of China’s National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA), to enhance bilateral media cooperation through joint productions, combating fake news, training programs, and cultural exchanges.
Both leaders described the partnership as a reflection of long-standing trust and deep-rooted friendship between Pakistan and China. They agreed to expand cooperation between state-run media organizations, particularly through joint broadcasting projects that will serve to effectively counter disinformation and fake narratives.
Attaullah Tarar commended China’s progress in public service broadcasting, digital media innovation, and cultural content dissemination, stating that Pakistan has much to learn from China’s successful model. He emphasized Pakistan’s interest in deepening technical training, institutional collaboration, and joint content creation, including documentaries and cultural programs.
Discussions included a proposed agreement between China Central Television (CCTV) and Pakistan Television (PTV) to enhance cooperation in content sharing, production, and mutual training. The plan also includes facilitating exchange visits between digital influencers from both countries to foster people-to-people contact and youth engagement.
Tarar remarked that during recent tensions between Pakistan and India, youth from both Pakistan and China displayed exceptional solidarity, which was widely acknowledged on social media. He said the influencer exchange program would further energize public diplomacy and promote mutual understanding.
Highlighting the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a symbol of shared progress, Tarar stated that national outlets like PTV, Radio Pakistan, and the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) are actively working to promote Chinese initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), as well as cultural and developmental stories from China.
He added that PTV continues to strengthen cultural understanding by airing Chinese documentaries and programs in Urdu, while APP’s China News Service plays a vital role in presenting Pakistan’s perspective to Chinese audiences.
Ms Cao Shumin praised Pakistan as a trusted partner and emphasized that deeper collaboration between media entities would be mutually beneficial. She reaffirmed China’s support for enhancing joint innovation, cultural exchange, and digital media cooperation.
Both sides agreed on the importance of shaping a unified narrative rooted in civilizational exchange and shared innovation, and committed to strengthening institutional frameworks for continued collaboration in media, culture, and public engagement.
