ISLAMABAD, Sep 10 (Alliance News): Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Wajiha Qamar on Wednesday held a meeting with senior officials of the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in education.

The FCDO delegation included Education Policy Adviser Salim Salamah, Education Policy Lead for the What Works Hub for Global Education (WWHGE) Simon Blower, and Katie Mullen from the Education Policy and Partnerships Team, Girls’ Education Department, according to a press release.

The talks focused on strengthening collaboration in girls’ education, teacher training, non-formal education, and the use of data and evidence for education reforms. The delegation also briefed the minister on FCDO’s global initiatives under the What Works Hub for Global Education, which aims to generate and apply research to improve learning outcomes in developing countries.

Wajiha Qamar underlined Pakistan’s education reform priorities, including expanding access to quality learning, reducing gender disparities, modernizing curricula, and integrating climate change and sustainability into the education system.

She stressed that education was central to Pakistan’s long-term development and reaffirmed the government’s commitment, under the vision of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, to ensure inclusive and equitable opportunities for all children.

The minister appreciated FCDO’s continued partnership in supporting Pakistan’s education sector through technical expertise and programmatic initiatives.

She emphasized the importance of evidence-based policymaking and welcomed closer collaboration with WWHGE to support reforms.

The visiting officials commended Pakistan’s efforts to prioritize education in national planning and expressed readiness to support innovative, cost-effective, and scalable interventions, particularly those empowering girls and marginalized communities.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their resolve to deepen Pakistan–UK cooperation in the education sector, with follow-up engagements planned to translate discussions into practical initiatives.
