ISLAMABAD, Sep 10 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to fully cooperate with the Sindh government and the Sindh Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) in relief operations following the flood situation in Karachi and other parts of the province.
The prime minister appreciated the active role of Rescue 1122, the Pakistan Army, and Rangers in carrying out rescue operations in the affected areas of Karachi.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in Gadap stream, where several citizens drowned, and instructed the authorities to expedite efforts to locate the missing persons.
He stressed the need to enhance awareness campaigns to keep the public informed about the flood situation, saying that timely information could help protect citizens and minimize casualties.
The prime minister further directed that immediate measures be taken for the restoration of flood-damaged communication infrastructure in Karachi and surrounding areas.
“The federal and Sindh governments are fully mobilized to deal with the flood situation,” the prime minister said, adding that relief and rehabilitation of families affected by the disaster must be given top priority.
