LAHORE, July 31 (Alliance News): Chairperson of the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau Punjab, Sarah Ahmed, has emphasized the critical importance of positive parenting in ensuring a child’s emotional and psychological well-being.

In a video message aimed at raising awareness among parents and guardians, she highlighted that every child deserves to grow up in an environment filled with love, trust, and understanding.

“Positive parenting starts with care, patience, and unconditional love,” she said, stressing that the foundation of a child’s development lies in how they are nurtured at home.

Sarah Ahmed underlined that the absence of a supportive and trusting relationship between parents and children often exposes young minds to psychological vulnerabilities and external threats, including exploitation and abuse.

In her message, the Chairperson said that many cases of children falling into harmful situations stem from weak parent-child communication and the lack of an emotionally safe environment at home.

“Children are often misused or fall into dangerous circumstances simply because they don’t feel safe opening up to their parents,” she said.

Sarah Ahmad urged parents to develop stronger, more empathetic relationships with their children by creating a home atmosphere where children are not only heard but also respected.

“If a child can trust their parents and confide in them, they are far less likely to be manipulated or harmed by outsiders,” she added.

The awareness message is part of an ongoing campaign by the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau Punjab to educate families about their role in protecting and nurturing children. The Bureau has consistently advocated for parental involvement as a preventive measure against child neglect, abuse, and exploitation.

Referring to recent cases handled by the Bureau, Sarah Ahmad mentioned that many children who ran away from home or were found in distressing circumstances had one common factor: emotional distance from their families.

“In our rescue operations, we find that children often leave home or fall into the wrong hands because they feel neglected or unloved. That is where the role of parents becomes central,” she said.

She further elaborated that positive parenting is not about discipline alone but about building mutual respect. “Children should never be afraid of their parents. Instead, they should see them as their safe space—someone they can turn to with any fear, question, or mistake,” she said.

Sarah Ahmad also appealed to community leaders, teachers, and social influencers to amplify the message of child protection and family-based care.

She reiterated that safeguarding children’s futures is a collective responsibility and cannot be left solely to the state or institutions.

The Child Protection and Welfare Bureau, under her leadership, has actively worked on rehabilitation and reintegration programs for vulnerable children across Punjab.

These efforts include awareness sessions, psychological counseling, and outreach campaigns to promote family support systems.

She emphasized that early intervention and emotional guidance can prevent a host of problems children may face in their lives, ranging from mental health issues to substance abuse and even criminal activity.

In conclusion, Sarah Ahmad called on parents to take a more proactive role in their children’s lives.

“Be there, listen, trust, and support them. Your presence and understanding can protect your child more than any external shield,” she urged.

As part of its broader vision, the Bureau plans to roll out more video campaigns and community engagements to strengthen the culture of care and compassion in parenting practices throughout Punjab.
