CHILAS, July 23 (Alliance News): The body of three-year-old Abdul Hadi, son of Dr. Mashal Fatima, was recovered near Dassar, Babusar Top, three days after a devastating flash flood swept away several members of a family returning from Skardu.
According to details, locals spotted the body on Monday evening and promptly informed the authorities. Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts swiftly retrieved Abdul Hadi’s body from a drain and transferred it to a hospital in Chilas.
The tragic incident occurred when a family from Lodhran, visiting northern Pakistan for a picnic, was caught in a sudden flash flood at Babusar Top. Dr. Mashal Fatima and her brother-in-law, Fahad Islam, lost their lives in the flood, while Abdul Hadi went missing and was presumed dead.
A heartbreaking account emerged from a surviving family member, who said that Abdul Hadi’s father had jumped into the raging waters in an attempt to rescue his child and aunt but was unable to save them.
Director Administration of Shahida Islam Medical College, where Dr. Mashal Fatima was employed, confirmed that the bodies of Dr. Mashal and Fahad Islam would be transported to Lodhran by 2 PM. Funeral prayers are scheduled for 5:30 PM, and burial will take place at Adam Wahan Cemetery.
Gilgit-Baltistan government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq stated that six bodies have been recovered so far, and the search for the remaining missing individuals continues. He said the GB Chief Minister personally visited the affected area and monitored the search operation.
The spokesperson added that stranded tourists on Babusar Road were safely evacuated to Chilas, and the government remains actively engaged in relief and recovery efforts.
This tragedy has deeply shaken the region and raised concerns over the safety of tourists in flood-prone areas during the monsoon season.
