PM Shehbaz Expresses Solidarity with Turkiye After Deadly Earthquake

ISLAMABAD, Aug 11 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and property after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Turkiye’s Balikesir province late Sunday night.

In a statement, the prime minister said he was saddened by the tragedy and conveyed his condolences to the victims and their families. “Our thoughts and sympathies are with the victims, and we pray for the safety and speedy recovery of our Turkish brothers and sisters,” he said.

Shehbaz Sharif extended his deepest condolences to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and assured that Pakistan was ready to provide all possible assistance to Turkiye in this difficult time.

According to the Turkish Anadolu Agency, the quake was centered in the Sindirgi district of Balikesir province at a depth of 11 kilometers. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that an 81-year-old citizen died after being rescued from a collapsed building, while 29 others sustained injuries but are not in life-threatening condition.

Initial assessments revealed that 16 buildings in 68 neighborhoods collapsed due to the earthquake and subsequent aftershocks.
