Attaullah Tarar Acknowledges Role of Sports Journalism in Promoting Healthy Competition

ISLAMABAD, Jul 08 (Alliance News): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Tuesday said that sports journalism has played a vital role in highlighting sports activities and fostering a spirit of healthy competition across the country.

Speaking at an event marking World Sports Journalists Day, the minister praised the contributions of sports journalists in shaping the national sports narrative and creating hope and courage among youth.

“Today is an important day for sports journalism, which has always promoted positivity and enthusiasm in the realm of sports,” he said.

Tarar emphasized that sports journalism significantly boosts the glamour and excitement surrounding various sporting events and promotes the true spirit of sportsmanship.

“It plays an essential role in spotlighting talent, especially from remote areas, enabling athletes to gain national and international recognition through the media,” he added.

He noted that Pakistan’s sports history is full of inspiring success stories, many of which have been brought to the public’s attention by dedicated sports journalists. The minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting both sports and sports journalism.

“The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will continue to facilitate sports media and work closely with journalists to strengthen this important field,” he said.

Congratulating the newly elected office bearers of the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Sports Journalists Association, Tarar encouraged media organizations to introduce coverage of emerging and less-highlighted sports to further unearth grassroots talent.

“Media houses must step forward to highlight new sports and showcase emerging players who can be the future of Pakistan’s sporting excellence,” he concluded.
