LAHORE, Aug 8 (Alliance News): Pakistani security forces shot down an Indian surveillance drone in Lahore’s Manawan area on Friday, police sources said.
The device was detected crossing into Pakistani airspace and was immediately targeted, the sources added. It appeared to be a reconnaissance drone, as no explosives were found.
Intelligence agencies have taken the drone into custody and launched an investigation.
The incident comes just months after a fierce May 2025 military confrontation between Pakistan and India, triggered by an April attack on tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) that New Delhi blamed on Islamabad.
In retaliation to Indian strikes, Pakistan’s military carried out “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos,” downing six Indian fighter jets — including three Rafales — and dozens of drones. The 87-hour conflict ended on May 10 after a US-brokered ceasefire.
Pakistan later acknowledged US President Donald Trump’s mediation efforts and recommended him for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
