Govt Invites Opposition for Dialogue on 26th Amendment

ISLAMABAD, Aug 5 (Alliance News): The federal government has extended an invitation to the opposition for talks to improve the 26th Constitutional Amendment, stressing the need for dialogue over confrontation.

Speaking during the National Assembly session on Monday, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar urged opposition members to engage in constructive discussions rather than disruptive behavior. “Come sit with us and tell us how to improve this amendment. We were ready yesterday, and we are ready today,” he said.

Referring to recent disruptions in the lower house, the minister emphasized that tearing up documents or intensifying the political atmosphere would not resolve constitutional issues.

“The problem will not be solved by heating the atmosphere and tearing paper. The problem will be solved only by talking,” he remarked.

Azam Tarar also defended the 26th Amendment, stating that it aims to protect the dignity of the parliament and restrict judicial overreach. “The 26th Amendment has stopped the contempt of parliament by the courts,” he asserted.

His statement came amidst rising tensions between the government and opposition over constitutional matters and the scope of judicial powers.
