IHC Seeks Govt Reply on Grade-22 Promotions Challenge

ISLAMABAD, Jun 18 (Alliance News): The Islamabad High Court has sought a formal response from the federal government after the constitutional and legal status of recent Grade-22 promotions by the High Power Selection Board was challenged.

Justice Inam Amin Minhas conducted the hearing, where initial arguments were presented by petitioners’ counsels including Barristers Umar Ijaz Gilani, Shoaib Shaheen, and Qamar Afzal. Former Information Secretary Sohail Ali Khan, former IGP Aamir Zulfiqar, and several other senior officers were present in court.

The petitioners argued that sudden amendments were made to the Establishment Division’s rules for Grade-22 promotions, allegedly to sideline certain officers.

They further contended that the recent High Power Central Selection Board meeting was chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister rather than the Prime Minister, which they claimed was an irregular and potentially unlawful deviation from past practice.

Justice Minhas, after hearing the arguments, issued notices to the government and adjourned further proceedings while seeking a comprehensive reply on the legality of the promotions.
