Pakistan Becomes Founding Member of International Mediation Body at Hong Kong Summit

HONG KONG, May 30 (Alliance News): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Friday called the creation of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed) a landmark step in strengthening multilateralism and promoting diplomacy over confrontation in today’s global environment.

Senator Dar represented Pakistan at the signing ceremony of the convention establishing IOMed, held in Hong Kong, marking Pakistan as a founding member of the new global body.

In his address at the high-level gathering, Senator Dar praised the visionary leadership of the People’s Republic of China for spearheading the initiative, likening its importance to China’s previous global ventures such as the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

He commended the selection of Hong Kong as IOMed’s headquarters, calling it a “super connector” that embodies the spirit of bridging East and West.

He emphasized that the establishment of IOMed marks the birth of a major international institution devoted to mediation and peaceful resolution of conflicts, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace and international law.

Highlighting Pakistan’s own recent efforts, including the formation of the International Mediation and Arbitration Center (IMAC), Dar noted that the country is actively advancing mechanisms for commercial and diplomatic dispute resolution.

Senator Dar also used the platform to spotlight global crises such as the unresolved Jammu and Kashmir dispute and the plight of Palestinians under occupation.

He condemned India’s recent military aggressions and violations of international treaties like the Indus Waters Treaty, calling such actions threats to regional and global stability.

He welcomed President Xi Jinping’s Global Security Initiative (GSI), stating it complements Pakistan’s vision for a UN-based international peace framework grounded in dialogue, justice, and mutual cooperation.

“Through our presence in IOMed, Pakistan brings not only its rich diplomatic experience but also an unwavering commitment to peace, equity, and justice,” he concluded, urging member states to strengthen the new organization to fulfill its potential in resolving international conflicts through dialogue.
