Pakistan, Libya Agree to Enhance Defence Cooperation, Military Training and Security Collaboration

RAWALPINDI, Jun 25 (Alliance News): Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Libya’s Deputy Army Chief Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar on Wednesday emphasized the need to further strengthen bilateral defence relations and expand cooperation in military training and security matters.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Libyan Arab Armed Forces Deputy Commander-in-Chief called on Field Marshal Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi, where both military leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, regional security developments, and avenues for enhanced military-to-military cooperation.

Upon his arrival at GHQ, Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar was presented with a guard of honour by a smartly turned-out tri-services contingent, reflecting the importance attached to the visiting dignitary.

During the meeting, both sides highlighted the significance of strengthening defence ties between Pakistan and Libya and agreed to explore further cooperation in professional military training, security coordination, and other areas of mutual interest.

The ISPR said the discussions focused on regional security dynamics and the evolving challenges faced by both countries, with an emphasis on maintaining close institutional engagement between the armed forces of Pakistan and Libya.

Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan Army’s commitment to promoting peace, stability, and constructive engagement with friendly countries through enhanced defence cooperation and professional exchanges.

Lieutenant General Haftar appreciated the professionalism, discipline, and operational capabilities of the Pakistan Armed Forces, acknowledging their contributions towards regional peace and security.

The meeting reflects continued engagement between Pakistan and Libya in the defence sector, with both countries seeking to strengthen military cooperation and expand areas of collaboration.

The visit comes more than four months after Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar visited Pakistan along with Libyan Arab Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal Khalifa Abu-al-Qasim Haftar.

During that visit, the Libyan military leadership also held discussions with Field Marshal Asim Munir on February 6, focusing on regional security situations, defence cooperation, and professional collaboration between the armed forces of the two countries.

Pakistan and Libya have maintained longstanding relations, with defence cooperation remaining an important component of bilateral ties. Both sides have continued to engage through military exchanges, training programmes, and discussions on regional security challenges.
