ISLAMABAD, Jun 25 (Alliance News): Pakistan on Thursday expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with Venezuela following powerful earthquakes that caused loss of life, injuries, and widespread destruction in the South American country.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif conveyed condolences to the Venezuelan government and people, especially the families who lost their loved ones in the disaster.
“On behalf of the people of Pakistan, I convey our heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Venezuela, especially the families of the victims,” the prime minister said in a message shared on social media platform X.
He also prayed for the recovery of those injured and expressed solidarity with all people affected by the tragedy during this difficult time.
President Asif Ali Zardari also expressed grief over the loss of lives and destruction caused by the earthquakes. According to a statement issued by the President House media wing, he extended sympathies to the bereaved families and conveyed Pakistan’s support to the government and people of Venezuela.
President Zardari said the people of Pakistan shared the pain of Venezuelan citizens and stood with them during the challenging situation. He prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and strength for families affected by the disaster.
The earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude, struck Venezuela on Wednesday, causing significant damage in several areas, including parts of the capital Caracas.
Authorities reported casualties and injuries, while rescue teams continued operations in affected areas to search for survivors and provide assistance.
Venezuela’s interim President Delcy Rodriguez said rescue operations were ongoing and that the full extent of the damage was still being assessed.
“Dozens of buildings have collapsed, and we are currently carrying out very intense rescue efforts to save as many lives as God allows us to save,” she said during a state television appearance.
Officials said initial casualty figures did not include possible losses from La Guaira state, located near Caracas and home to the country’s main airport, which was among the worst-affected areas.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS), using predictive models to estimate potential casualties, warned that the death toll could rise significantly, with the possibility of reaching thousands.
Pakistan’s expression of solidarity reflects its continued support for countries affected by natural disasters and its commitment to humanitarian cooperation during times of crisis.
