ISLAMABAD, June 16 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with a high-level delegation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) led by Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competencies and Knowledge Exchange, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in governance and public sector reform.
The delegation also included UAE Ambassador to Pakistan Hamad Obaid Al Zaabi, along with senior UAE officials Abdullah Al Balouki and Ibrahim Al Ali from the Government Knowledge Exchange Office.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recalled his previous interaction with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and termed it highly productive. He appreciated the UAE’s constructive role in easing tensions between Pakistan and India during a recent conflict.
Highlighting domestic reforms, the Prime Minister said Pakistan has adopted digitization, paperless economy systems, and a faceless customs mechanism to modernize governance. He emphasized Pakistan’s interest in learning from the UAE’s successful development model and modern management systems.
“Our aim is to strengthen data-driven governance and improve administrative efficiency,” said Shehbaz Sharif, expressing hope that the UAE’s experience would help Pakistan implement reforms more effectively.
UAE Minister Abdullah Nasser Lootah reaffirmed the strong brotherly ties between the two nations and acknowledged the vital role played by the Pakistani community in the UAE’s development. “We are pleased to share our governance knowledge and experiences with Pakistan,” he stated.
Later, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Minister Abdullah Nasser Lootah witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Pakistan and the UAE. The MoU aims to enhance cooperation through mutual exchange of expertise, development models, and best practices.
The agreement covers collaboration in several areas, including good governance, development planning, public sector reforms, human resource development, urban planning, and science and technology.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Planning and Development Dr. Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi also attended the ceremony.
