ISLAMABAD, Jun 24 (Alliance News): The ambassadors of Saudi Arabia and Qatar called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday to discuss the rapidly evolving security situation in the Middle East following Iran’s missile attack on the US military base at Al-Udeid in Qatar.

The high-level meetings come amid heightened tensions between Iran, Israel, and the United States, with concerns growing over regional stability and potential spillover effects.

Taking to his official account on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said, “Met the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia today and discussed the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East… Pakistan will continue to work closely with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for peace in the region through dialogue and diplomacy.”

During the meeting with Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Saeed Al Malkiy, the prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia as a key strategic partner.

He emphasized that Pakistan believes in resolving conflicts through diplomatic engagement and peaceful negotiations.

Later, the Qatari Ambassador Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani also met with the prime minister to discuss the implications of the recent escalation, including the Iranian strike on the US military base in Doha.

The attack, which Iran said was in retaliation for US support to Israeli military actions, has triggered alarm across Gulf nations and prompted urgent diplomatic consultations.

The prime minister was briefed on Qatar’s response and its appeal for de-escalation. He expressed deep concern over the developments and reiterated Pakistan’s consistent position that conflicts in the region must be resolved through dialogue, not confrontation.

Sources close to the meetings confirmed that the prime minister also conveyed Pakistan’s readiness to play a constructive role in any peace initiative led by regional stakeholders, especially those aimed at de-escalation and promoting multilateral diplomacy.

These back-to-back meetings with top Gulf diplomats underscore Islamabad’s growing diplomatic engagement in light of the Middle East crisis and highlight Pakistan’s close ties with both Riyadh and Doha.
