ISLAMABAD, June 24 (Alliance News): A landmark healthcare partnership between the United Kingdom and Pakistan has moved a step closer to opening a state-of-the-art, 250-bed hospital in Islamabad, as UK Trade Envoy Mohammad Yasin MP and British High Commissioner Jane Marriott CMG OBE toured the hospital’s construction site on Monday.
This will be the first collaboration between the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) and a Pakistani hospital.
London’s Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust has joined hands with Novacare — the private healthcare firm behind the Islamabad facility — to provide expert guidance on hospital operations, staff training, and clinical service planning. The hospital is slated to open in 2026.
The partnership is poised to be a game-changer for both countries, enabling the UK to export its world-class NHS expertise while supporting the Pakistani healthcare system.
Under the agreement, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust will offer specialist knowledge in the planning and development of the hospital, focusing on 28 key clinical specialties, including cardiology, oncology, orthopaedics, neurology, and maternal health.
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott, speaking during the site visit, said, “This agreement is bringing the UK’s world-leading healthcare expertise to Pakistan, and in turn supporting the UK’s NHS. By sharing cutting-edge clinical best practices and developing staff, this agreement will directly help to save lives.”
The hospital is expected to feature next-generation infrastructure with smart building management systems, AI-powered vertical transport, and technology aimed at infection control and fall prevention.
The facility is being built with a vision to meet international healthcare standards and cater to a broad range of patient needs.
Affiliate fees generated from the partnership will be reinvested into NHS services in the UK, making this not only a significant healthcare advancement for Pakistan but also a revenue-enhancing venture for British healthcare institutions.
As part of the partnership, Novacare’s medical staff will gain access to multidisciplinary team meetings at Imperial, receive second opinions from UK-based specialists, and undergo training aligned with NHS protocols.
There is also a provision for referring complex cases to Imperial College’s private healthcare facilities in London, ensuring continued care while boosting cross-border collaboration.
UK Trade Envoy to Pakistan, Mohammad Yasin MP, who is currently on a 3-day visit to Islamabad and Karachi, joined the high commissioner at the construction site and met with Novacare’s senior leadership, including CEO Johannes Kedzierski; Faraz Minai, Director and CEO of Andalus Holdings; Ghalib Hafiz, Director and Partner at Andalus Holdings; Mustafa Hassan, Director; and Project Director Qaiser Rafiq.
Commenting on the initiative, Yasin noted that this project exemplifies the kind of mutually beneficial partnerships that the UK government is eager to support under its Growth Mission and Modern Industrial Strategy.
“This hospital represents the shared commitment of the UK and Pakistan to enhancing human capital, supporting public health, and building resilient healthcare systems,” he said.
The collaboration also signals growing investor confidence in Pakistan’s healthcare sector and a new era of international-standard health services available to the local population.
It reinforces the UK’s global leadership in healthcare, while strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations in the field of medical innovation and professional development.
