Pre-Monsoon Rains Expected Across Pakistan from June 20–23, Heatwave Likely to Subside

ISLAMABAD, Jun 19 (Alliance News): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread pre-monsoon rains from June 20 to 23 across the country, predicting a relief from the ongoing intense heatwave.

The expected wet spell will bring rain-wind, dust storms, thunderstorms, and isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by hailstorms in several regions.

According to the PMD, moist currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are entering upper and central parts of the country. A westerly wave is also expected to approach northern areas by June 20, creating unstable weather conditions.

From June 20 to 23, rainfall is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhelum, Gujrat, Sialkot, and other parts of upper and central Punjab.

Rain-thunderstorm activity is also forecast in KP districts including Peshawar, Swat, Dir, Chitral, Abbottabad, Kohat, and Waziristan.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Murree, and Galliyat are also likely to receive scattered showers.

From June 21 to 23, rain with dust storms is likely in south Punjab and northeastern Balochistan, affecting areas such as Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Zhob. From June 22 to 24, upper Sindh, including Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, and Jacobabad, may witness dust storms and thunderstorms.

The Met Office warned of possible damage to vulnerable structures due to strong winds and lightning. Urban flooding is also a concern in low-lying areas of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Islamabad during heavy rainfall. Farmers have been advised to plan agricultural activities accordingly, and tourists are urged to avoid travel to flood-prone areas.

Authorities have been directed to remain alert and take precautionary steps to avoid any untoward incidents during the forecast period.
