RAWALPINDI, May 28 (Alliance News): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Wednesday met with Azerbaijani Minister of Defence Colonel General Hasanov Zakir Asgar Oglu in Lachin, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to deepening defence cooperation with Azerbaijan.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the two sides discussed matters of mutual interest, regional security dynamics, and strategies to enhance bilateral defence collaboration.
The Army Chief appreciated the strong and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan and reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to bolster strategic and military ties with the Central Asian nation.
Field Marshal Munir is part of a high-level Pakistani delegation led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, currently visiting Azerbaijan as part of a five-day regional tour. The delegation is also attending the Pakistan-Türkiye-Azerbaijan Trilateral Summit aimed at enhancing regional cooperation in defence, trade, and diplomacy.
The Pakistani delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Lachin on Tuesday, where he met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. During the meeting, the premier expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan’s strong diplomatic and public support following recent Indian missile aggression against Pakistan.
The two leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction over the growing cooperation in political, economic, defence, and cultural spheres. They also agreed to facilitate delegation-level exchanges aimed at expediting Azerbaijani investments in Pakistan.
