LAHORE, July 14 (Alliance News): Negotiations between the government and opposition members regarding the suspension of 26 Punjab Assembly lawmakers ended without any breakthrough on Sunday, though both sides agreed to meet again in the coming days.
After the meeting with Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, Opposition Leader Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar told reporters that while talks were held in a cordial environment, no progress was achieved in today’s session.
He added that another meeting is expected within two to three days.
He clarified that the issue is not about seeking an apology but about defending the party’s position. “Our 26 members were suspended and fined.
There was disorder from both sides during the session. The Speaker is reviewing all aspects,” Bhachar said.
He reiterated that discussions are still at an early stage and there is no deadlock so far. “Let’s hope for a positive outcome,” he added.
Meanwhile, Punjab Assembly Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman said that talks with the opposition continued under the Speaker’s leadership.
While some matters remain unresolved, he noted that the opposition has shown agreement on several points.
“The people of Punjab want their elected assembly to function with dignity and respect,” he said.
The suspension of 26 lawmakers was linked to their disruptive conduct during the recent budget session, which included sloganeering and damaging assembly property.
