ISLAMABAD, July 19 (Alliance News): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar and Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah discussed the evolving Middle East situation on Saturday and emphasized the need for de-escalation, respect for sovereignty, and full implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
According to a Foreign Office statement, the conversation took place after the Kuwaiti foreign minister contacted Dar to discuss the latest regional developments.
During the call, Sheikh Jarrah expressed Kuwait’s serious concerns over continued attacks on its territory and voiced hope that all parties would exercise restraint and adhere to the commitments made under the Islamabad MoU.
He also appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting dialogue, mediation and regional stability.
Senator Dar underscored the importance of upholding the ceasefire commitments contained in the Islamabad MoU and avoiding any actions that could further escalate tensions in the region.
He stressed the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states, emphasizing that preserving regional peace and security should remain the foremost priority.
Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact on issues of mutual interest and continue consultations on regional developments.
The telephone conversation came after Kuwait accused Iran of targeting civilian facilities and vital infrastructure, including an oil installation and a power and water plant, following recent attacks on its territory.
Separately, media reports suggested that Pakistan and Kuwait are holding preliminary discussions on expanding defence cooperation, including security collaboration and investment. However, officials familiar with the talks indicated that negotiations remain at an early stage and no final agreement has been reached.
Pakistan has consistently advocated dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful resolution of regional disputes while maintaining close ties with Gulf countries and supporting efforts aimed at promoting stability in the Middle East.
