ISLAMABAD, July 24 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday expressed satisfaction over the growing momentum in Pakistan-United Kingdom bilateral cooperation, particularly following recent trade discussions aimed at creating mutually beneficial opportunities for both countries.

The remarks came during a meeting with British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, held at the Prime Minister’s House, according to the PM Office Media Wing.

Welcoming the UK’s decision to resume Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to and from the UK, the Prime Minister noted that the move would ease travel for the British Pakistani community and boost people-to-people contacts. He appreciated the High Commissioner’s efforts in facilitating the resumption of flights.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted Pakistan’s close cooperation with the United Kingdom at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), where Pakistan currently holds the rotating monthly presidency.

Regional issues concerning South Asia and the Middle East were discussed in the meeting. The Prime Minister acknowledged the UK’s constructive role in de-escalating tensions during the Pakistan-India standoff and reiterated Pakistan’s readiness for a meaningful dialogue with India on all outstanding matters.

He extended warm greetings to King Charles III and Prime Minister Keir Starmer, expressing hope for a productive meeting with UK leadership later this year.

The British High Commissioner thanked the Prime Minister for the meeting and briefed him on her recent consultations in London regarding enhanced bilateral relations. She praised the economic progress made under the Prime Minister’s leadership, stating that the improvement in Pakistan’s macroeconomic indicators was commendable.
