ISLAMABAD, July 24 (Alliance News): The body of Colonel (Retd) Qazi Ishaq, who went missing during a heavy rainstorm in Islamabad, has been recovered from the Sawan River.
The tragic incident occurred when he and his 25-year-old daughter were swept away by powerful floodwaters while driving near a private housing society in the capital.
According to rescue officials, Colonel Ishaq’s body was discovered after an extensive search operation involving Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi teams, who also recovered the bonnet and door of the submerged vehicle from beneath the Sawan Bridge.
However, the search for his daughter, who was with him in the car, has now entered its third day and remains ongoing.
Witnesses reported that during a sudden downpour, water from an overflowing storm drain submerged the road. The retired colonel’s vehicle became stuck and was eventually dragged into the gushing drain after he tried to restart the car.
Despite shouting for help, the force of the water overwhelmed the vehicle, which was swept into an underground water channel.
Rescue operations, led by Rescue 1122 and supported by Navy divers and other emergency services, have been intensified with the deployment of drone cameras, helicopters, and excavation machinery.
Teams are thoroughly searching underground passages, monitoring the water flow, and identifying areas where someone might be trapped.
There is deep grief and concern in the affected neighborhood as the community and family cling to hope for the missing young woman. Officials have vowed that the search operation will not be paused until she is found.
