Pakistan, Bangladesh Eye Deeper Trade Ties in Energy, Agriculture, and Industry

ISLAMABAD, Aug 4 (Alliance News): Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Md. Iqbal Hussain Khan, held a productive meeting on Monday, aiming to expand bilateral cooperation in trade, energy, logistics, and industrial linkages.

According to an official release, High Commissioner Khan shared encouraging feedback from his recent visits to Pakistan’s industrial hubs, where he observed enthusiastic responses from local business chambers keen to foster stronger ties with Bangladesh.

Discussions centered around Bangladesh’s growing demand for Pakistani coal and limestone, essential for the country’s power generation and soda ash production. Minister Jam Kamal noted that Pakistan is ready to meet these industrial needs and boost exports of high-quality limestone from Sindh.

Agricultural trade also featured prominently in the talks. While Pakistan is exploring pineapple imports from Bangladesh, the two sides discussed Pakistan’s mango exports, pending final technical clearances. Both agreed on the need to address regulatory and phytosanitary requirements to unlock full trade potential.

The meeting also explored collaboration in textiles, Halal-certified meat exports, and the removal of logistical barriers hampering smoother trade flows. To ease business interactions, both sides committed to streamlining business visa processes.

“Through focused collaboration in energy, logistics and food security, Pakistan and Bangladesh can develop a transformative economic partnership that benefits our entire region,” said Minister Jam Kamal, emphasizing the strategic importance of the bilateral relationship.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to establish sector-specific business linkages and enhance trade facilitation mechanisms in the near future, setting the stage for a stronger economic partnership between the two South Asian nations.
