ISLAMABAD, Aug 7 (Alliance News): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has underscored the urgent need for coordinated, evidence-based, and actionable measures to revive cotton’s central role in Pakistan’s economy, enhance global competitiveness, and improve farmer livelihoods.
Chairing the fourth meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Essential Cash Crops, Dar led a detailed review of Pakistan’s cotton sector.
The discussions emphasized increasing production, improving seed quality, adopting modern technologies, encouraging research, mitigating climate impacts, and ensuring active participation of all stakeholders across the cotton value chain.
Dar directed the Ministry of National Food Security to prepare an action plan through a follow-up committee to ensure that previous policy recommendations are implemented effectively.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to revitalizing the cotton sector, which is vital to Pakistan’s agricultural and industrial development.
The meeting was attended by the Minister for National Food Security, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, and senior officials from the Ministry of Commerce, FBR, MNFSR, provincial governments, and other relevant departments.
