Murree Restricts Independence Day Entry to Families Under Section 144

RAWALPINDI, Aug 11 (Alliance News): Authorities in Murree have imposed Section 144 for three days during Independence Day celebrations, restricting entry to Mall Road and GPO Chowk to families only.

A notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Murree, Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi, said the measure — effective August 12, 13 and 14 — aims to maintain public order and prevent untoward incidents during the festivities.

The decision follows recommendations from the District Intelligence Committee meeting held on July 30, which cited possible overcrowding and disorder during the national holiday.

Under the order, violators will face action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The Deputy Commissioner noted that judicial proceedings for violations committed during the restriction period will continue even after the order expires.

The Murree administration has planned a grand Independence Day celebration, including a fireworks display on August 14 at Mall Road.
