PESHAWAR, Aug 15 (Alliance News): Torrential rains and flash floods have wreaked havoc across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing at least 46 people and leaving dozens missing in incidents caused by cloudbursts, lightning strikes, and floodwaters.
In Bajaur district, a devastating lightning strike and cloudburst in Salarzai Tehsil around midday destroyed several houses, killing 21 people and injuring five. Many victims were buried under the rubble. Roads, houses, and other properties have suffered extensive damage.
In Batagram, flash floods swept away 30 to 40 people after destroying 6 to 8 houses. Ten bodies have been recovered, while rescue teams continue to search for the missing.
Mansehra’s hilly village of Dheri Halim in Butal saw several deaths after floods demolished five houses, killing nine people and washing away large numbers of livestock.
In another incident in Mansehra, a car was swept away in a rain drain, killing two people and injuring one.
In Lower Dir, four people died and four others were injured when a roof collapsed. Heavy rains in Swat caused river overflows that submerged markets, houses, and vehicles in Mingora.
Malam Jabba Road was blocked by landslides, while high flood levels were reported in the Swat, Panjkora, Siran, and Kunhar rivers.
Authorities have warned of further flooding as water levels continue to rise across the region.
