Pakistan, Bahrain Agree to Strengthen Security Cooperation

ISLAMABAD, Sep 10 (Alliance News): Bahrain’s Interior Minister Lieutenant General Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa on Wednesday visited Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior, where he was received by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

The two sides held high-level and delegation-level talks to enhance bilateral cooperation in security and law enforcement.

During the meeting, Pakistan and Bahrain agreed to establish a Joint Working Group to boost collaboration in areas including counter-narcotics, counter-terrorism, coast guard operations, border security, immigration, and police training.

Both countries also decided to sign Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering extradition, mutual legal assistance, and specialized battalion training.

Interior Minister Naqvi underscored the urgency of combating drug trafficking, calling it a matter that “concerns the future of our coming generations.”

He lauded the efforts of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), which achieved a record recovery worth $146 million despite limited resources, and welcomed Bahrain’s decision to appoint a Drug Liaison Officer at its embassy in Islamabad.

Naqvi also highlighted the enduring people-to-people ties between the two nations, noting that over 120,000 Pakistanis living in Bahrain play a significant role in the development of both countries.

Bahrain’s Interior Minister reaffirmed his country’s commitment to Pakistan, stating, “Bahrain attaches great importance to its brotherly relations with Pakistan and seeks to advance cooperation in all sectors.”

He said the creation of the Joint Working Group and the signing of MoUs would provide new momentum to bilateral ties.

The talks were attended by senior officials, including Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Director General of ANF, the Commandant of the National Police Academy, Islamabad’s Chief Commissioner, Inspector General of Police, and members of Bahrain’s delegation.
