ISLAMABAD, July 5 (Alliance News): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has criticized what he described as India’s “artificial prestige politics,” saying the creation and promotion of questionable international honours raise serious concerns about credibility and image management.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, Tarar said the announcement of new awards just days before a foreign visit had become a matter of concern. He also pointed out that spelling mistakes in the honorary certificates had caused embarrassment and raised questions about the authenticity and professionalism of the recognition.
The minister said that presenting a single individual as the first and only recipient of a particular award reflected a failure in image management rather than genuine international recognition.
Tarar further alleged that the Indian government has, for years, portrayed such foreign honours as evidence of global acceptance despite what he described as its policies based on hatred and division. He claimed these awards have been widely promoted to strengthen India’s international image.
Commenting on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s overseas engagements, Tarar said Modi continues to attend honorary ceremonies abroad while ordinary Indian citizens face serious challenges and pressing domestic issues at home.
