ISLAMABAD, Jul 10(Alliance News): Russia has partially lifted its ban on potato imports from Pakistan, allowing 101 Pakistani exporters to resume shipments to the Russian market after reviewing the country’s phytosanitary and export control measures.
According to the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, the decision came after Pakistani authorities provided additional technical information on potato production, inspection, quarantine procedures and export controls.
The new approval came into effect on July 7, 2026, restoring market access for 101 Pakistani potato exporters.
Russian authorities said the decision followed a detailed assessment of Pakistan’s phytosanitary measures and compliance with quarantine requirements.
However, the ban on two Pakistani exporters remains in place after Russian officials found violations of quarantine regulations in their previous consignments.
The Russian agency said all agricultural imports from Pakistan would continue to undergo quarantine and phytosanitary inspections in accordance with Russian laws.
Russia had imposed restrictions on some Pakistani potato imports in 2025 after identifying quarantine-related concerns in certain shipments.
The latest decision is expected to strengthen agricultural trade between Pakistan and Russia and provide fresh export opportunities for Pakistan’s potato industry.
