Pakistan reiterates commitment to de-escalation and regional stability amid renewed tensions
ISLAMABAD, July 12 (Alliance News): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar on Sunday reaffirmed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to resolving disputes and achieving lasting peace during a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, the two leaders exchanged views on the evolving regional security situation and discussed recent developments in the Middle East.
During the conversation, Dar stressed the importance of restraint and de-escalation, urging all parties to resolve differences through peaceful means in line with the commitments outlined in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached in June.
He emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only sustainable way to address disputes and ensure long-term peace and stability in the region.
The deputy prime minister also reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to continue playing a constructive role in promoting regional peace, stability and diplomatic engagement.
The Foreign Office said both leaders agreed to remain in close contact and continue consultations on issues of mutual interest.
The telephone conversation came amid renewed tensions in the Middle East following exchanges of missile and drone strikes between the United States and Iran.
Iran has maintained restrictions on navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, saying the strategic waterway will remain closed until what it described as the end of US interference in the region. The disruption has raised concerns over global energy supplies and pushed international oil prices higher.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the United States of violating the ceasefire agreement, while senior Iranian officials have reiterated Tehran’s position that future commitments must be based on mutual compliance.
Pakistan has consistently called for restraint, dialogue and diplomacy, maintaining that peaceful engagement remains the only effective means of preserving regional and international peace.
