JEDDAH, Aug 07 (Alliance News): Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye are expected to sign a trilateral defence agreement during a summit in Saudi Arabia on Friday, according to media reports, as the three countries seek to strengthen regional security cooperation amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.
The expected agreement comes against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, with regional powers pursuing closer defence coordination and diplomatic engagement to promote stability.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Asim Munir arrived in Saudi Arabia on Thursday for a three-day official visit, while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is also expected to participate in the trilateral discussions.
During their stay, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir performed Umrah following their arrival in the Kingdom.
According to the Foreign Office, Prime Minister Shehbaz will hold talks with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman to review bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international developments.
The Pakistani delegation also includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who arrived in Saudi Arabia after attending the Ministerial Meeting on Jerusalem in Jordan.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said the visit reflects Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening strategic ties with Saudi Arabia, promoting regional peace and supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the Middle East.
Pakistan has continued diplomatic engagement with regional partners to encourage dialogue and the peaceful resolution of disputes, particularly amid tensions affecting the Strait of Hormuz and wider Gulf region.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia further deepened their longstanding defence partnership after signing a mutual defence pact in September 2025, under which aggression against either country would be treated as an attack on both.
In April this year, Pakistan also deployed fighter aircraft and military personnel to Saudi Arabia under the bilateral defence framework to enhance the Kingdom’s security cooperation.
The proposed trilateral agreement is expected to further strengthen defence collaboration among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye in the areas of regional security, military cooperation and strategic coordination.
