LAHORE, Aug. 11 (Alliance News): The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has imposed a complete ban on the issuance of handwritten receipts at restaurants, hotels, coffee shops and marriage halls across the province to curb alleged tax evasion and improve transparency in tax collection.
The decision was implemented on the directives of PRA Chairman Muazzam Iqbal Sapra, with commissioners in all districts issuing notifications to enforce the measure.
Under the notification, all restaurants, hotels, coffee shops and marriage halls must issue customer receipts through the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (EIMS).
Businesses failing to issue EIMS-generated receipts will face fines ranging from Rs400,000 to Rs1 million. Repeated violations may result in the sealing of the business for up to one month.
The PRA also warned of strict legal action against businesses involved in tampering with sales records, obstructing officials or failing to provide required records.
The notification further prohibits the issuance of kitchen order slips, unpaid bills or any other unofficial receipts to customers.
Businesses are now required to issue official receipts displaying the business name, address, receipt number and the Punjab Revenue Authority QR code.
According to PRA officials, the initiative aims to improve transparency in the tax collection system, ensure accurate sales reporting and prevent tax fraud.
