ISLAMABAD, Aug 04 (Alliance News): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar departed on Monday for a one-day visit to Amman, Jordan, to participate in the ministerial meeting on Jerusalem scheduled for August 5.
In a statement, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Dar would reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate cause during the meeting.
He said the deputy prime minister is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with participating foreign ministers to discuss regional and international developments.
According to the spokesperson, the ministerial meeting will bring together foreign ministers from the Arab League and a group of Islamic countries, including Pakistan, to formulate a unified response to the rapidly deteriorating situation in occupied Jerusalem.
Dar is visiting Amman at the invitation of Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Al Safadi.
The participating foreign ministers are also scheduled to call on King Abdullah II during the visit.
The Foreign Office said Dar’s participation reflects Pakistan’s principled support for the Palestinian people and its longstanding commitment to the establishment of an independent, sovereign and contiguous State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as its capital.
Pakistan has consistently condemned the repeated incursions by extremist Israeli settlers into Al-Aqsa Mosque under the protection of Israeli forces, as well as actions aimed at altering the historical, legal and demographic status of occupied East Jerusalem.
The Foreign Office reiterated that such actions violate international law, relevant United Nations resolutions and the historical and legal status of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied East Jerusalem.
