ISLAMABAD, Jul 9 (Alliance News): Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the UN Headquarters in New York, where the two leaders discussed the regional situation and a range of international issues.
According to an official statement, the meeting focused on Pakistan’s mediation efforts to help end conflicts in West Asia and the United Nations’ peacekeeping initiatives, with special emphasis on Pakistan’s longstanding contribution to UN peacekeeping missions.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appreciated Pakistan’s continued efforts to promote peace and acknowledged the country’s valuable role in supporting UN peacekeeping operations around the world.
Speaking on the occasion, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan had acted responsibly to promote regional peace, stability and protect human lives despite numerous challenges under the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
He said realistic mandates and adequate resources were essential for the success of all United Nations peacekeeping missions.
The UN Secretary-General thanked Pakistan for its longstanding commitment and valuable contributions to UN peacekeeping efforts in support of global peace and security.
