NDMA forecasts rain, hailstorms in several parts of Pakistan from may 19

ISLAMABAD, May 15 (Alliance News): The National Disaster Management Authority has forecast rain, windstorms and hailstorms in several parts of the country from May 19 to 22, warning citizens to take precautionary measures amid changing weather conditions.

According to an official statement issued by the NDMA, rain accompanied by strong winds and isolated hailstorms is expected in various districts of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Lahore, Sialkot, Kasur and Multan along with surrounding areas.

The authority said similar weather conditions are also expected in several parts of Balochistan, where rain, thunderstorms and hailstorms may affect areas including Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Chaman and Khuzdar.

However, the NDMA warned that heat intensity is likely to increase in other districts of Balochistan where dry weather conditions are expected to persist.

In Sindh, weather conditions are expected to remain hot and dry, with temperatures likely to rise further during the coming days.

The NDMA also forecast rain, strong winds and hailstorms in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Swat, Peshawar, Bannu, Abbottabad, Mansehra and Landi Kotal.

Thunderstorms and hailstorms are also expected in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Rain has been forecast in Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Astore, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Bagh and Kotli.

The authority further stated that rain is likely in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir during the next 12 to 24 hours.

Additional thunderstorms are expected in areas including Hunza, Nagar, Ghizer, Diamer, Ganchhe, Shigar, Kharmang, Rawalakot, Mirpur and Bhimber, while rain and gusty winds may also affect Dir, Kalam, Malakand, Nowshera, Mardan, Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan.

The NDMA advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel during extreme weather conditions, particularly during heavy rainfall, strong winds and intense heat.

Citizens were also urged to stay away from weak structures, signboards and electricity poles during storms and heavy rain to avoid accidents and injuries.

Residents living in vulnerable and low-lying areas have been directed to closely follow weather advisories and instructions issued by local administrations and disaster management authorities.

Officials emphasized that precautionary measures and timely awareness could help minimize risks associated with severe weather conditions and protect lives and property.
