Islamabad, Aug. 9 (Alliance News): Pakistan secured one gold and two silver medals at the Third International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO-2026) held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, while also being named the host country for the next edition of the prestigious international competition in 2027.
Supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Olympiad was held from August 2 to 8 and brought together around 120 students and experts from 19 countries, including China, Japan, Russia, Türkiye, Malaysia, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.
Muhammad Ali from Government College University (GCU), Lahore, won the gold medal for Pakistan, while Muhammad Usman and Seerat Fatima Bhatti earned silver medals. Syed Shuja Haider also represented Pakistan in the competition.
The Pakistani students were selected through the Pakistan Nuclear Science Olympiad (PANSO), an initiative of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) aimed at identifying and nurturing talented students for participation in the International Nuclear Science Olympiad.
The International Nuclear Science Olympiad is a leading global competition for secondary school students, designed to promote scientific excellence, innovation and international cooperation in the peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology.
Pakistan’s outstanding performance reflects the country’s continued commitment to developing young scientific talent and encouraging students to pursue careers in nuclear science and technology.
In another major achievement, Pakistan was officially announced as the host of the Fourth International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO-2027).
During the closing ceremony, Dr. Muhammad Maqsood from the PAEC Directorate of Education and Dr. Sajjad Tahir from the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) received a commemorative memento marking Pakistan’s selection as the next host nation.
