ISLAMABAD, Sep 12 (Alliance News): Pakistan has appointed its first ambassador to Armenia following the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2025.
Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan presented his Letters of Credence to Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan during a ceremony at the presidential palace in Yerevan, according to the Pakistan Embassy in the United Arab Emirates.
Khan concurrently serves as Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE and as the country’s non-resident ambassador to Armenia.
Pakistan and Armenia formally established diplomatic relations through a joint communiqué signed in August 2025.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced the development on August 31 last year, saying Pakistan and Armenia had reaffirmed their commitment to the principles and objectives of the UN Charter and agreed to strengthen cooperation in areas including the economy, education, culture and tourism.
President Khachaturyan congratulated Ambassador Khan on his appointment and expressed his best wishes for a successful tenure. He also conveyed his readiness to support efforts aimed at further developing Armenia-Pakistan relations and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Ambassador Khan conveyed the greetings and best wishes of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to the Armenian president.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Armenia and expanding cooperation between the two countries.
The two sides highlighted significant potential for greater engagement in trade and investment, education, culture, people-to-people contacts and other areas of economic cooperation.
Earlier, Ambassador Khan met Armenia’s foreign minister, who congratulated him on his appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic responsibilities.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the bilateral agenda, discussed ways to expand cooperation and exchanged views on regional and international developments.
Khan also met Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan and handed over a copy of his Letters of Credence.
Safaryan described the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Armenia as an important policy decision by the leadership of both countries.
The two sides also discussed prospects for strengthening cooperation through bilateral and multilateral forums.
The ambassador’s engagements in Yerevan underscored Pakistan and Armenia’s commitment to developing bilateral relations and exploring new avenues of mutually beneficial cooperation.
