ISLAMABAD, Sep 8 (Alliance News): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar on Monday highlighted that unresolved disputes, particularly in Kashmir and Palestine, continue to pose serious threats to regional and international peace.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advocating negotiations and mediation for peaceful conflict resolution.
Addressing the curtain raiser ceremony for the upcoming Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), scheduled to be held in November, Dar underscored the dangers of rising unilateralism, bloc politics, and violations of the UN Charter.
The event was attended by Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, diplomats, parliamentarians, and ISC Secretary General Ek Nath Dhakal.
“Without security, there can be no peace, and without peace and security, there can be no development. Humanity faces numerous interlinked crises threatening international peace, security, economic stability, and sustainable development,” Dar said.
He pointed out that climate change, recurring climate-induced disasters, and flaws in the global financial system were worsening poverty and inequality, undermining international development goals.
The deputy prime minister emphasized that the ISC serves as a vital platform for fostering dialogue, mutual respect, and parliamentary engagement, which align with Pakistan’s broader foreign policy based on the principles of the UN Charter—sovereign equality of states, non-interference, self-determination, and peaceful settlement of disputes.
Dar recalled Pakistan’s recent election to the United Nations Security Council with overwhelming international support, which he said reflected the country’s growing role in promoting peace and security.
Highlighting the devastating floods that have once again displaced millions across Pakistan, he urged global leaders to confront the existential threat of climate change with collective action.
He expressed hope that the ISC in November would bring together diverse voices to forge practical solutions for peace, security, and sustainable development.
