Trump Confirms US Delegation to Arrive in Islamabad for Iran Talks

ISLAMABAD, April 19 (Alliance News): US President Donald Trump has confirmed that American negotiators will arrive in Islamabad on Monday evening for the second round of talks with Iran, while warning Tehran of serious consequences if it rejects a peace deal.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “My representatives are going to Islamabad… for negotiations,” expressing hope that Iran would accept what he described as a “fair and reasonable deal.”

He also issued a strong warning, threatening to target Iran’s infrastructure if an agreement is not reached.

Trump accused Iran of violating the ceasefire by firing on vessels near the Strait of Hormuz, further escalating tensions. Reports indicate that at least two ships were targeted while approaching the key maritime route.

Conflicting reports have emerged regarding the composition of the US delegation. While Axios reported that Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff would be part of the team, NBC News suggested that Vice President JD Vance may lead the delegation, as he did in the previous round.

Meanwhile, security has been placed on high alert in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, with the Red Zone sealed and foreign advance teams already arriving ahead of the talks.

The renewed diplomatic push follows earlier Pakistan-mediated negotiations after a ceasefire in the broader Middle East conflict.

Despite some progress, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said significant gaps remain, noting that a final agreement is still distant.
