PSL 8: Zalmi defeats Karachi Kings, by 24 runs

ISLAMABAD, Mar 02 (Alliance News): In the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023, Peshawar Zalmi won the match by 24 runs by giving Karachi Kings a tough target thanks to half-centuries from Tom Koehler, Haseebullah Khan and Romain.

In the 17th match of PSL played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Karachi Kings captain Imad Wasim won the toss and invited Peshawar Zalmi to bat first.

Mohammad Amir of Karachi Kings sent Zalmi’s openers Mohammad Haris and Babar Azam LBW in the first over.

Aggressive young batsman Mohammad Haris was dismissed on the very first ball of the first over.

Captain Babar Azam also failed to open his account and was dismissed on the fifth ball of the first over in front of Amir’s nippy bowling.

After Zalmi’s two wickets fell for just 2 runs, Saeem Ayub came in to bat and added just one run before falling victim to Mohammad Amir on the second ball of the third over.

Tom Koehler and Haseebullah Khan took Zalmi out with difficulty and the score reached 84 runs.

The two batsmen put on a partnership of 81 runs and batted aggressively.

Tabriz Shamsi faced 29 balls and dismissed Haseebullah Khan for 50 runs with the help of 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Romain Powell batted at lightning speed for Zalmi and scored a half-century to lead the team’s score.

Peshawar Zalmi’s score reached 163 runs in the 19th over, then Romain Powell was also dismissed by Mohammad Amir.

Romain Powell scored 64 runs off 34 balls with the help of 6 fours and 4 sixes.

From the other end, Tom Koehler completed his batting half-century in a responsible fashion.

Peshawar Zalmi scored 197 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the scheduled overs despite suffering from difficulties in the beginning.

Tom Kohler scored an unbeaten 56 off 45 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes.

Aamir Jamal faced 5 balls and scored 13 runs with the help of 2 sixes.

Mohammad Amir took 4 wickets for 26 runs on behalf of Karachi Kings.

Chasing the target, Karachi Kings’ Mathewed and Adam Rossington put on a 40-run opening partnership, but Azmatullah Umarzai gave Zalmi their first win.

Tayyab Tahir of Kings was dismissed for 6 runs, Azmatullah Umarzai took the second wicket with a score of 66.

The bowlers of Peshawar Zalmi brought continuous success to the team, Mujeebur Rahman caught Irfan Khan by Powell for a total of 79, his innings could not go beyond 4 runs.

Shoaib Malik scored only one run and became the wicket of Amir Jamal, then the score of 81 to Karachi Kings fell for the fourth wicket and suffered severe difficulties.

As captain Imad Wasim came in to bat, opener Matthew Wade was dismissed for 95 in the 12th over.

Matthew Wade scored 53 runs off 41 balls with the help of 9 fours.

Ben Cutting supported the captain for a while with 15 runs, but Azmatullah Omarzai was caught by Neesham, who came on as a substitute fielder.

Amir Yameen of Karachi Kings scored 8 runs off 5 balls but was dismissed by Amir Jamal.

From the other end, captain Imad Wasim completed his half-century.

Tabriz Shamsi was also dismissed by Amir Jamal for zero.

Chasing a target of 198 runs, Karachi Kings scored 173 runs for 8 wickets in the allotted overs with the help of captain Imad Wasim’s half-century.

Imad Wasim remained not out with 57 and Akif Javed scored 7 runs.

Peshawar Zalmi won by 24 runs and increased the number of points to 6.

Romain Pavel was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant and aggressive batting.
