JHELUM, April 19 (Alliance News): An armed attacker who opened fire outside the academy of Muhammad Ali Mirza in Jhelum was killed in retaliatory fire by police, officials confirmed on Sunday.
According to police reports, the incident occurred near GTS Chowk outside the Quran and Sunnah Research Academy, where the scholar regularly delivers lectures. The assailant, carrying a 9mm pistol, entered the premises and opened fire.
Police responded immediately, killing the attacker on the spot. A police constable assigned to the scholar’s security was injured after being shot in the leg and was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital, where he is reported to be out of danger.
Jhelum Police spokesperson Kashif Kayani said the attacker has not yet been identified. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Chaudhry Shafiq confirmed that timely police action prevented any harm to Muhammad Ali Mirza, who remained safe during the incident.
A heavy police contingent reached the scene, and security in the area has been further tightened. Authorities said investigations are underway to determine the motive behind the attack and identify the assailant.
