LOS ANGELES, May 9 (Alliance News): FIFA has announced a star-studded lineup of international artists for the opening ceremonies of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico.
According to FIFA, the opening celebrations in Mexico City will showcase Mexican culture through performances by Indigenous and modern folkloric artists, highlighting the country’s rich cultural heritage.
In Toronto, Canadian singers Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara, William Prince and Bangladeshi-American DJ Sanjoy will perform ahead of Canada’s opening group-stage match against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12.
FIFA stated that the Canadian ceremony will feature a “mosaic-inspired reimagining” of the FIFA World Cup Trophy symbolising the country’s diversity and sense of community.
Later the same day in Los Angeles, American pop superstar Katy Perry will headline the opening ceremony before the United States faces Paraguay in its opening match.
The Los Angeles event will also include performances by rapper Future, Brazilian singer Anitta, Thai rapper and singer LISA, Nigerian artist Rema and South African singer Tyla.
FIFA said the US ceremony is designed to deliver a “high-energy spectacle” reflecting the scale, ambition, and cultural influence of the tournament.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will mark the second time in history that the tournament is being co-hosted by multiple nations. The first was the 2002 FIFA World Cup, jointly hosted by South Korea and Japan, with South Korea staging the opening ceremony.
