The International Cricket Council announced a 12-player Team of the Tournament on Monday, featuring representatives from eight countries. World champions Australia dominated the selection with four players, while runners-up England had two representatives.
Australia’s selected players include Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Ash Gardner and captain Sophie Molineux. England’s representatives are Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Nat Sciver-Brunt.
The remaining players in the squad are Pakistan’s Fatima Sana, India’s Sree Charani, South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp, Ireland’s Orla Prendergast and Sri Lanka’s Nilakshika Silva, while Scotland’s Darcey Carter was named as the 12th player.
Fatima’s selection was one of the biggest positives for Pakistan despite the team’s early exit from the tournament. The Green Shirts managed only one victory in the 12-team event, defeating the Netherlands in their final group-stage match, but their captain consistently impressed with both bat and ball.
The all-rounder finished the tournament with 11 wickets in five matches at an outstanding average of 11.27, while also scoring 85 runs. Her performances earned widespread praise from the ICC, which described her as the “beating heart” of Pakistan’s campaign.
One of her finest displays came against South Africa, where she scored an unbeaten 55 after Pakistan had collapsed to 50-8 before claiming 3-16 with the ball, nearly leading her side to a remarkable comeback victory. She also produced figures of 3-12 against the Netherlands, playing a key role in Pakistan’s 37-run victory.
England opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 302 runs, while India’s Sree Charani topped the wicket-taking charts with 14 wickets.
Australia’s Beth Mooney, who scored 238 runs and played match-winning innings in both knockout fixtures, was named the tournament’s Player of the Tournament as Australia secured a record seventh ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title.
