ISLAMABAD, Jun 21 (Alliance News): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide weather advisory, warning that thunderstorms, strong winds, dust storms, and heavy rainfall may affect several parts of the country during the next 12 to 24 hours.

The authority cautioned that vulnerable areas may face risks of urban flooding, flash floods, landslides, and Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs), particularly in mountainous regions where glacier-related flooding threats remain high.

According to the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), the current weather pattern is in line with the seasonal outlook issued several months earlier. The NDMA said it has been continuously sharing advance warnings, risk assessments, and preparedness guidelines with federal, provincial, and district authorities to ensure timely response during potential emergencies.

The advisory forecasts rain accompanied by thunderstorms, windstorms, and dust storms across different regions of the country.

In Punjab and Islamabad, rainfall is expected in areas including Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Gujrat, Jhelum, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan.

The NDMA also highlighted increased risks in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, where thunderstorms and rainfall are expected in areas including Gilgit, Skardu, Diamer, Astore, Hunza, Ghanche, Shigar, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Kotli, Mirpur, and Bhimber.

A separate alert was issued regarding possible Glacial Lake Outburst Floods in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The authority warned that GLOF events could trigger sudden flooding, landslides, and debris flows in mountainous communities.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rainfall with thunderstorms is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and surrounding areas.

Parts of Balochistan, including Turbat, Kech, Awaran, Khuzdar, and Zhob, may also receive rainfall and thunderstorms. In Sindh, areas including Karachi, Jacobabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Khairpur, Ghotki, and Kashmore may experience strong winds, dust storms, and isolated rainfall.

The NDMA said district administrations and relevant departments are closely monitoring vulnerable locations and have been directed to remain alert. Rescue and emergency response teams have also been instructed to maintain readiness for any emergency situation.

The authority advised tourists and travelers to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of severe weather and urged people visiting northern areas to check weather updates and road conditions due to possible landslides, flooding, and road blockages.

Citizens have been advised to remain updated through the official “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” mobile application and immediately contact local administration and rescue services in case of an emergency.

The NDMA directed all provincial and district authorities to take precautionary measures and ensure effective coordination to minimize the possible impacts of the expected weather system.
