ISLAMABAD, Aug 07 (Alliance News): The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has amended the Solar Regulations 2026, removing the licensing requirement for solar power systems of up to 25 kilowatts (kW) and delegating approval authority to electricity distribution companies (DISCOs).
According to a notification issued by the regulator, consumers installing solar systems with a capacity of up to 25kW will no longer be required to obtain prior approval from NEPRA.
The move is aimed at promoting the adoption of solar energy and simplifying the approval process for consumers across the country.
Under the revised regulations, the authority to approve solar systems of up to 25kW has been transferred to the relevant electricity distribution companies, which will process applications directly.
NEPRA said the amendments would streamline procedures for solar consumers, reduce processing time and support the expansion of renewable energy in Pakistan.
The regulator added that the revised framework is expected to encourage greater investment in clean energy solutions while facilitating easier access to rooftop solar installations for residential and small commercial consumers.
