Pak Military vows to safeguard Pakistan’s water rights

ISLAMABAD, July 7 (Alliance News): Pakistan’s military leadership has reaffirmed its commitment to take all necessary measures to safeguard the country’s rightful share of water in accordance with government directives and the aspirations of the people.

The commitment was made during the 276th Corps Commanders’ Conference held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi under the chairmanship of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Monday.

The forum reviewed the regional situation following India’s decision to place the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) in abeyance after the April 2025 attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), an allegation Pakistan has consistently denied.

Taking note of India’s statements regarding the treaty, the commanders reaffirmed the National Security Committee’s directives issued on April 24, 2025, and pledged to ensure the availability of Pakistan’s rightful share of water through all necessary measures.

The conference offered Fateha for the martyrs of the Pakistan Armed Forces, law enforcement agencies and innocent civilians, stating that their sacrifices remain the foundation of Pakistan’s security, unity and resilience.

The military leadership reviewed the overall security environment and expressed satisfaction over the operational preparedness, professionalism and combat readiness of the Pakistan Armed Forces.

The forum expressed serious concern over what it described as the continued use of Afghan territory by Indian-backed terrorist groups, including Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan, to launch attacks inside Pakistan.

It said lasting regional peace depends on preventing the use of Afghan soil by terrorist proxies and held the Afghan Taliban authorities responsible for stopping such activities.

The conference reaffirmed Pakistan’s right to defend its people against terrorism and said intelligence-based operations under Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq would continue against terrorist threats originating from across the border.

Besides military operations, the forum stressed the need to strengthen governance and improve public services in affected areas to eliminate the nexus between terrorism and criminal networks.

The commanders also discussed the growing use of hybrid warfare and disinformation campaigns aimed at creating instability in Pakistan. They said any attempt to undermine the country’s security through such tactics would be met with a firm and coordinated response.

Reviewing the regional situation, the forum appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to promote dialogue, de-escalation and regional stability. It reaffirmed the country’s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution, respect for international law and stronger regional cooperation to address common security challenges.

The conference strongly condemned ongoing human rights violations and demographic changes in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, reaffirming Pakistan’s diplomatic, political and moral support for the Kashmiri people.

It said lasting peace in the region depends on granting Kashmiris their right to self-determination in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions.

In his concluding remarks, Field Marshal Asim Munir directed commanders to accelerate implementation of the Armed Forces’ multi-domain transformation plan in line with the evolving nature of warfare.

He also instructed commanders to maintain the highest standards of vigilance, operational readiness and professional excellence to effectively counter conventional, sub-conventional and hybrid threats while safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereignty and national interests.
